SURJ DC is a chapter of Showing Up for Racial Justice (SURJ), a national network of groups and individuals organizing white people for racial justice. Through community organizing, mobilizing, and education, SURJ provides a space to build relationships, skills, and political analysis to act for change.

NOVEMBER 2023 Update: Read our statement and see resources on Gaza/Palestine Solidarity here.

In SURJ DC, we support and follow the leadership of Black- and People of Color-Led organizing work, including Black Lives Matter-DC, EmpowerDC, Many Languages One VoiceONE DC, and the Stop Police Terror Project. We also connect with other white people to further our own political education and analysis, and to learn, canvass, advocate, organize, fundraise, and more.

How to start

  1. Sign up for our SURJ DC email list (see form above) and respond to weekly asks & events. We compile SURJ DC and partner events and requests in a weekly email to make it easy for you to show up!

  2. Learn about our teams and let the Welcome Team connect you with meetings. Email surjdc+welcoming@gmail.com.

  3. Learn about our partners. Follow them on social media, and set up recurring donations to them.

  4. Follow us on Facebook and Twitter and Instagram.

  5. Donate to SURJ DC. Half your donation supports our BIPOC organizing partners, and half helps us continue to organize white people to challenge racism.
