<image:title>Ask Anne - Queer in the Capital: How can I celebrate pride in solidarity with the movement for Black lives? - Dear Anne,</image:title>
<image:caption>Pride this year feels a lot different from last year, which makes sense given the context of America experiencing the tandem public health crises of racist police brutality and COVID-19. I'm white and gay, and am wondering if SURJ has suggestions for ways to show up this month in a way that celebrates my queer identity but also is in solidarity with the movement for Black lives? – Queer in the Capital</image:caption>

      <image:title>Ask Anne - Wondering about the L in BIPOC - Dear Anne,</image:title>
<image:caption>I have read that the term “BIPOC” seeks to highlight Black and Indigenous people and their unique relationship to white supremacy, but I don't understand why Latinx people aren't included in that. I understand that Black and Indigenous people have experienced horrific things in this country due to white supremacy but it seems like Latinx people have as well, especially as is seen with what's going on at the border and the dehumanization of migrant workers. Can you help me understand why they are included in the later "POC" category? – Wondering About the L in BIPOC</image:caption>

<image:title>Ask Anne - Unsure on Upshur: Should I stop posting about racial justice until I am better equipped to handle racist remarks? - Dear Anne,</image:title>
<image:caption>I am new to public support of racial justice. I have very rarely stated anything controversial on my social media accounts. Recently, I've been making an effort to amplify Black voices and share on social media. My friends and family have mostly been supportive, but a few people have responded with thinly veiled racist beliefs. I've responded to these comments as best I can, but feel that I need to better educate myself to best counter their racist arguments. So, should I stop posting things on social media until I'm better equipped to handle racist remarks? Or should I do what I can now to amplify Black voices and beg forgiveness if my responses are lackluster? My leaning is towards the latter (not wanting to exhibit white fragility or an unwillingness to speak) but I do fear I'm doing more harm than good. -Unsure on Upshur</image:caption>

      <image:title>Reading/Action Groups (2022 Copy) - Call for Reading/Action Group Planners</image:title>
<image:caption>For 7+ years, SURJ DC has hosted Reading/Action Groups. These small group discussions allow for skill-building around taking antiracist action in workplaces, neighborhoods, schools, and families. The groups are an important way to bring more people into SURJ DC’s work, and to support folks interested in dismantling white supremacy, one conversation at a time. The Reading/Action Group Planning Team is looking for fresh voices and faces to launch the next Reading/Action Groups. Would you be interested in being part of the team? We’ll be holding a meeting to welcome newcomers to the team, share what planning looked like this past year, talk about what folks envision for the next round, and determine if we have enough interest to launch and plan groups for 2023. If you may be interested, we encourage you to join this meeting, during which we hope to answer your questions and show you who we are as a team. If you’re interested in joining us for this initial meeting, please email surj.readinggroups@gmail.com. Once we have a core team, we'll set a date and time for the meeting that works for the bulk of the group.</image:caption>
